Daniel Ahasic - Experienced Firefighter and Paramedic in Illinois
A graduate of West Aurora High School and recipient of a bachelor of science in aviation from Southern Illinois University, Daniel Ahasic began his career as a clerk at Refco. Working in the firm's main office in the Sears Tower, he spent two years on the commodities trading room floor at the Chicago Board of Trade and handled responsibilities such as writing orders for stock purchases and verifying stock transactions. Daniel Ahasic shifted gears two years later and joined Tejada Construction as a concrete construction foreman. He spent three years in this role and has worked as a firefighter since 2001.
Ahasic began his firefighting career with the Darien-Woodridge Fire Department and Sugar Grove Fire Department. Here, he learned technical firefighting and paramedic skills as well developed the communication and decision-making skills that are necessary for a career in firefighting. He later worked at DeKalb Fire Department and has been a valued member of Aurora Fire Department, as both a firefighter and paramedic, since 2004.
In addition to combating and extinguishing fires, Daniel Ahasic is a trained first responder who delivers emergency care for minor and major injuries when necessary. He also regularly visits local schools and organizations to promote fire prevention awareness and has investigated incidents of arson. Since joining Aurora Fire Department, he has earned distinctions such as Firefighter of the Year.
Complementing more than two decades of firefighting experience, Ahasic regularly attends FDIC International, an annual firefighting conference in Indiana, and is a member of IAFF AFFI Local #99. He keeps up to date with developments in his field via the Illinois Fire Service Institute.
When he isn't working, he enjoys outdoor recreation activities such as skiing, baseball, SCUBA diving, swimming, and running. He has participated in triathlons as well as the Chicago Marathon. In addition, he is a blood donor and American Red Cross volunteer.
